Tarot Tuesdays: Week of January 3

Updated: Jan 19, 2021

Music is probably one of the most universal tools we use to express our emotions. Pretty much everyone has some sort of relationship to music. Whether you are listening to it or creating something with it, music has a way of bringing people together and expressing the emotion of a room or a situation. This card depicts two women in vibrant color playing the drums and tambourine respectively, because let’s be honest, music is best when it's created and enjoyed with others.

I love music! My parents love music, my friends love music; I honestly don’t think I know anyone who doesn't like music. You know the meme with all these random things pasted on it with quotes that say “my musical tastes”, yeah… that’s me. It’s honestly one of my favorite forms of self care. I can find a song or an artist or an album or a genre or a playlist that expresses Whatever emotion I am feeling or want to feel.

One thing that I love to do is make playlists for every season. I actually just realized as I was making my new 2021 playlist that I have a lot of these playlists on my phone; 14 ranging back to 2015, to be exact. Of course I do make other playlists for special occasions or specific situations, but the seasonal playlists are the ones that I end up listening to the most. I usually pick whatever songs are out that I like, the songs that I am currently listening to on repeat, a few of my favorite oldies, and anything else I think I’ll want to listen to; Songs usually get added to it as time progresses. Each playlist is like a perfect snapshot of my experience of that time period. I can listen to a playlist from 2015 and instantly be transported to driving down a rural Maryland road making my way from Ocean City back to Baltimore; Or I can listen to a playlist from 2017 and be stuck in morning traffic between Delaware and Philadelphia while making my daily commute. Can you tell I like listening to music in the car?

Anyway, I just made a playlist for the beginning of 2021. I spent a lot of time on this one, and while I’m sure it will change, it definitely reflects the vibe I want going into this year. It’s 395 songs, one of my largest playlists by far, but I’m not going to put you through listing every single song. I’ll put it on shuffle and share the first 21 songs of my “2021 Energy” Playlist with you (I skipped songs by artists already present on the list). If you like any of them or any of them resonate with you, awesome! If not, no harm no foul; maybe you’re just inspired to make a playlist of your own.

How do you use music as a form of self care? That’s my challenge for you this week. Find a way to use music in your routine, if you don’t already, and see how it can enhance your experience.
